Located in the heart of Arroyo Grande, Village Cyclery is more than just a bike shop—it’s a hub for the city’s cycling community. Originally opened as Ira’s Bike Shop in 1975, when Ira Hughes opened the shop. Ira Hughes, who started working at the shop when he was just 12, was a cornerstone of the community for decades. Not only did he run the shop, but he also served on the city’s Downtown Parking Advisory Board. His years of service were honored with a proclamation from the Arroyo Grande City Council, recognizing his deep connection to the town.

Recently, Grayson Duyst took over as the new owner of the shop.

Village Cyclery: A Legacy of Community and Cycling

Grayson, a passionate cyclist and community advocate, has continued Ira’s legacy of top-notch service while modernizing the shop to meet the evolving needs of today’s riders. Under Grayson’s leadership, Village Cyclery has expanded its community-focused events, group rides, and educational programs, further solidifying its role as a central gathering point for cycling enthusiasts.

Beyond offering high-quality bikes and expert repairs, Village Cyclery is a place where cyclists can connect, share experiences, and celebrate the sport. Stop by Village Cyclery and see how this family-owned shop has turned cycling into a lifestyle—and how you can be part of the ride.

What started as a love for riding around his neighborhood quickly evolved into a lifelong dedication to bikes and the cycling community. In 2014, Grayson discovered mountain biking and was immediately hooked on the adventure and challenge it brings.

At just 15, he landed his first job at a local bike shop—an experience that laid the foundation for his career in the cycling industry. Years later, Grayson is proud to continue that journey as the owner of Village Cyclery in Arroyo Grande, where he combines his hands-on mechanical expertise with a deep commitment to quality service.
